What information I collect:
Your name and contact details when you first get in touch
Brief notes about our sessions, stored on an encrypted device digitally or in a locked cabinet physically.
Any relevant information you choose to share with me that helps with your care (for example your GP & contact details)
How your information is used:
I use your personal information only to provide you with counselling services. I will never share your information with anyone else unless:
You ask me to share it (for example, with your GP), or
In situations of high risk, where I believe you or someone else may be in danger, I may need to contact your GP or another appropriate service. This includes safeguarding concerns where there is a serious risk of harm.
I am legally required to do so.
How your information is stored:
Electronic records are stored securely on password-protected and encrypted external hard drive.
Any paper notes are stored in a locked cabinet.
Only I have access to your information during our work together.
In the event of a serious accident, illness or my death, my clinical supervisor will have access to your contact details and notes in accordance with my clinical will. This ensures you are informed and supported appropriately if I am no longer able to work.
How long I keep your information:
I keep counselling records securely for up to 7 years after our work ends, in line with professional and insurance requirements. After this time, they are safely destroyed.
Your Rights:
You have the right to:
see the information I hold about you.
Ask me to correct or delete your information
withdraw your consent to me holding your data.
You can do this at any time by contacting me.

Confidentiality:
Everything you share with me in counselling is treated with respect and kept confidential. To support safe and ethical practice, in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework, I discuss my work with a qualified clinical supervisor. This helps me reflect on my practice and ensure you receive the best possible support. In these discussions, your identity is protected, and you are not personally identifiable.
The only exceptions to confidentiality are:
If i believe there is a serious risk of harm to you, or to someone else, or if there is a safeguarding concern. In such situations, I may need to share relevant information with your GP or another appropriate service to help keep you or others safe. Wherever possible, I will attempt to talk this through with you first.
If I am legally required to disclose information.
In the event of a serious accident, illness, or my death my clinical supervisor will have access to your contact details, to notify you, in accordance with my clinical will, so you can be supported appropriately.
